Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are set to complete the transfer of Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt who was previously a target for Chelsea.
De Ligt was under much speculation regarding a potential exit from the Serie A outfit this summer. Moreover, many clubs were put on red alert after the defender decided to make an exit in the transfer window.
Seemingly disappointed during his stint with Juventus unable to win major trophies, the centre-back is set for a new adventure. Chelsea were among the clubs interested to sign the player who were really invested to secure his services this summer.
However, German club giants, Bayern Munich have hijacked the deal worth over £80m to bring de Ligt to the Allianz Arena.
Chelsea to re-activate Koundé deal
Thomas Tuchel is looking to re-activate the deal to sign Sevilla centre-back Jules Koundé after losing out on de Ligt. The Blues gaffer needs a solid defensive cover this season which is a necessity for the club this summer.
The exits of players in the defensive area has made the manager look for players in the transfer market. Moreover, Chelsea were initially interested to sign Koundé, however, they were also optimistic about signing de Ligt.
The interest in the Sevilla ace that once subsided has now slowly started to regain momentum and Chelsea now want him. However, Chelsea faces stiff competition from Catalan giants FC Barcelona who are keen to sign the player this transfer window.
Moreover, Koundé is waiting for Barcelona to activate the second lever which would help the club sign the player. This could hand another major blow to the Stamford Bridge club and Tuchel will again turn his attention elsewhere.
It remains to be seen if Chelsea can hijack the Koundé deal from Barcelona or will they face another blow.
