Ollie Watkins

Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins, and Mikel Arteta has praised him now.

The Gunners are expected to sign a new forward in one of the next two transfer windows. Many feel they are one prolific striker away from being the favourites to win the title, and Watkins has been rumoured to be a player of interest to Arsenal.

Ollie Watkins has been on the radar of multiple clubs over the last year or so, including Mikel Arteta‘s Arsenal.

The 27-year-old striker has been fantastic for Aston Villa since he joined them. He has taken his game to a whole new level under Unai Emery and is among the top strikers in the country now.

Watkins has scored 13 goals and provided eight assists in all competitions this season in just 22 games. That is an outrageous return.

Arsenal also looking to sign Watkins

Aston Villa will definitely not let Watkins leave in January, but the Englishman has attracted interest from multiple clubs already in recent months. Chris Wheatley claimed on Shots TV just a month and a half ago that he is really admire by Arsenal.

Now, Arteta has come out and praised him.

Ahead of the game against Aston Villa this evening, Arteta said about Watkins, as per Arsenal.com:

“He’s been tremendously consistent over the last few years and he’s a real threat.”

When asked how he can be stopped, he said: “Just like with other strikers,

Don’t give him the ball in the box! That’s his main quality.”

We don’t expect Arsenal to sign Ollie Watkins next month, but if they are really have interest,

They may have an edge over other sides.

The 27-year-old Englishman, who has scored four goals in six Premier League games against Arsenal over the years, has publicly admitted that he is a Gooner. He even claimed that his dream is to play for the North London club one day.

He told Sports Gazette in 2020: “That’s the dream, to play for Arsenal one day. But, you know, it a long shot.

“I’m an Arsenal fan so Thierry Henry was my [idol] he’s unbelievable to watch. He was the idol growing up really.”
