According to David Ornstein, Arsenal coaching staff and players were impressed by their new signing in only two matches. Jurrien Timber joined Arsenal from Ajax in the summer for £38 million. The 22 year old played in the pre-season and was very good for the Gunners. But in his first Premier League game against Nottingham, he was injured within 45 minutes. Timber was sidelined with an ACL injury making it really difficult for him to return before 2024.
Arsenal really need Timber
With the season coming to it’s second phase, there are Champions League Knockout fixtures coming up. Along with the Premier League title race finally taking shape. Arsenal need their best players on the field. The Dutch defender was claimed to be impressive for Arsenal by David Ornstein. He revealed during his Q&A on The Athletic:
“The Jurrien Timber injury was a huge setback. He had blown away staff and team-mates, and it’s a massive loss.”
Timber has been unfortunate with an injury early on in the season. It is expected that once he is back, Arsenal will have much needed quality at the back. The Gunners have several injuries in the back like Thomas Partey, Ben White and few others. With important fixtures coming up and so many injuries at the back, Mikel Arteta really needs the quality of the Dutch defender.
How will he fit into the squad?
Jurrien Timber was used on both Full back positions by Mikel Arteta in the pre season campaign. He is a versatile player who can also play in the centre back position when needed. But it is unlikely that he will be moved to the central role in Arsenal right now. Zinchenko and Timber can either compete for the Left back position or work together in Left and Right back positions respectively.
