PSG considering to loan Gini Wijnaldum to Arsenal

About Football Express UK

Arsenal are considering signing Gini Wijnaldum from PSG on a loan deal.

Gini just left Liverpool last season after 5 years with The Scousers and proceeded to join PSG.

According to the Sun , PSG are willing to let Gini leave the club on a loan deal in January till the end of the season. The report also states that Gini himself is open to this option and is happy with the prospects of returning to the Premier League. Arsenal are interested in the prospect of signing him as well.

So far in the current season, he has played 14 games in the league and 5 in the Champions League for PSG. He even scored a goal in the 92nd minute against Lens to rescue a point for the French outfit.

However, the player has quoted to a media outlet NOS

“I can’t say I’m completely happy because the situation is not what I wanted.

“But that’s football and I’ll have to learn to deal with that. I’m a fighter.

“I have to stay positive and work hard to turn it around.
“I was really looking forward to the new step and then this happens. It is very difficult.”

What kind of a player was Gini Wijnaldum for Liverpool?

Gini Wijnaldum played as a central midfielder for Liverpool. His attacking stats are not great and he is not great in defending as well.

Gini did not have a pivotal role at Liverpool, rather a very special and simple one. Wijnaldum had excellent ball retention abilities which steadily rose over the seasons. He is also great at tackling. Summating this up, his main role was to provide the ball to other attackers like Salah and Mane.

The main incentive of this role is that Salah and Mane can create better chances for the team. Hence just like Arthur Melo, Frenkie De Jong, Gini also played in a similar role.

What is the current midfield situation at Arsenal?

Arsenal currently have Xhaka, Thomas Partey, Maitland Niles, Lokonga and Elneny as options. Arteta is keen on reigniting the Gunners midfield with Partey underperforming and Xhaka who has just returned from injury.

The Gunners are also linked with Oxlade-Chamberlain and strongly linked with Renato Sanches as well.

Arsenal are looking to sign quality midfielders with Elneny and Maitland Niles likely to leave. Lokonga is a great prospect but will take time to adapt to the league.
