Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a move for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix as per the report in Spanish outlet AS (via SportsMole).
The 22-year-old joined the Rojiblancos back in 2019 from the Portuguese side Benfica for a whopping £111.2 million. However, the move hasn’t been a great success for the youngster as the forward has struggled to find regular first-team action at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium. He made only three starts in La Liga this campaign, scoring a solitary goal and assisting as many times.
According to the report, Joao Felix has reportedly been frustrated in the Spanish capital due to the lack of game time under Diego Simeone and the player’s agent is assessing multiple options for the young forward and has asked the Colchoneros to let Felix leave in the upcoming transfer window.
The report further claims that Manchester United are among the names who have shown interest in signing the Portugal international and have already asked Atletico Madrid about the availability of the young forward.
Will Manchester United make a move for Joao Felix?
Signing Joao Felix will be a great acquisition for Manchester United as the forward is extremely talented and has shown glimpses at La Liga that he could become a world-class player in future.
However, it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils’ new interim manager will want the Portuguese youngster or not. The Spanish giants bought the forward for a huge price just a couple of years back and the Red Devils will have to break their bank to sign the youngster in the upcoming transfer window.
The Old Trafford outfit currently stacked with attacking talents in their squad and bringing in yet another forward player for a huge price will not be a shrewd decision from the Manchester United hierarchy. The Red Devils lack options in midfield as the futures of Paul Pogba and Donny Van De Beek are still uncertain and Nemanja Matic is reaching the wrong end of his career.
Therefore, Manchester United need to invest in the middle of the park to improve the squad. So, although Joao Felix will be an extremely tempting signing for the Old Trafford club, they don’t need to purchase the forward at the moment. And signing a midfielder will be a better decision by the club management.
