With 54 points from 23 league games, Arsenal is having its most successful season in a while. They are two points ahead of Man City. Yaya Toure shares his thoughts on this.
Yet after they lost to Everton and Manchester City, surrendered points to Brentford at home, and fell behind 2-1 at Aston Villa, their title challenge appeared to be crumbling.
At that moment, it was impossible to rule out an Arsenal collapse. But on Saturday at Villa Park, the Gunners produced an amazing comeback. They scored twice in stoppage time to defeat Unai Emery’s team 4-2.
With that result and Manchester City’s unexpected draw against Nottingham Forest, Arsenal now has a two-point advantage over the defending champions and a five-point lead over Manchester United.
Toure has won three Premier Leagues with Man City, two La Liga championships with Barcelona, and the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast, so he is familiar with what it takes to win both domestic and international honours.
The illustrious midfielder admits Arsenal are playing with the ‘belief’ of champions and ‘deserve’ to be in first place at this point in the season, but he ‘hopes’ Manchester City overtakes them at the top of the Premier League.

Yaya Toure on Premier League championship
“Sometimes you can just see when teams believe,” Yaya Toure, 39, told William Hill.
“When I was playing for Barcelona, you could feel yourself thinking, “Okay, I think we’re going to be champions”, the same in England and with my national team, and I’m getting that feeling with Arsenal.”
“I want Manchester City to win the league as a fan, but let’s see. Arsenal deserve to be where they are now for what they’re doing; they’ve been in fantastic form for several months now.”
“I watched Man City’s game against Arsenal at the Emirates, and thought that Arsenal looked really strong; they were unlucky to lose.”
“I definitely think Arsenal can win the title, but it’s far from the end yet, so we’ll have to see what happens in the next few games.”
“Arsenal are playing some really good football, but let’s hope Manchester City win it!”
Arsenal returns to play this weekend against Leicester City. Manchester City will try to go back to winning ways on Wednesday night when they take on RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
