Wesley Fofana to move out of Chelsea this summer along with others

Wesley Fofana appears to have acted prematurely by all but confirming a transfer to Chelsea this summer before any official announcement has been made. Amidst a series of almost daily departures from Stamford Bridge, the French player was quick to bid farewell. Thus, indicating his eagerness for the move.

Despite having played together in only one game throughout the season, the duo has managed to establish a strong off-field relationship. Their bond is evident as they both share a common language (French) and occupy defensive positions. The limited game time they have had together highlights the challenges faced as a whole.

Following Fofana’s arrival at the club, Mendy encountered injury troubles and a decline in form. Thus, causing him to be sidelined for a significant portion of the season. Consequently, their opportunities to play together were severely less. Their sole appearance together took place in Thomas Tuchel’s last game as the coach in September 2022. Subsequently, ongoing injury concerns for both players resulted in minimal opportunities for them to establish a consistent partnership on the field.

Will Mendy also leave Chelsea?

Mendy is reportedly on the verge of departing the club he joined in 2020 for a fee of £20 million ($25.4 million). Following Kepa Arrizabalaga’s resurgence in form, he is now the primary choice for the goalkeeping position. However, Mauricio Pochettino, the manager is preparing for the arrival of another potential contender for the goalkeeper role at Stamford Bridge.

Despite having two years remaining on his contract, Mendy is poised to join Al-Ahli in a deal worth £17 million. He will be part of a group of Chelsea players making a move to the Saudi Pro League. This includes N’Golo Kante on a free transfer, Hakim Ziyech, and Kalidou Koulibaly. This summer, Chelsea is experiencing multiple departures as they embark on a rebuild under the management of Mauricio Pochettino.

Transfers for players like Kante, Koulibaly, and Mateo Kovacic have been officially announced. However, Mendy’s move to Saudi Arabia is not a confirmed deal. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, there are indications of progress. With reports stating that Mendy underwent a secret medical examination in London on Monday. Thus, suggesting that the move is well underway.
