Chelsea have reached an agreement in place with Leicester City for Wesley Fofana in the transfer window this summer.
Thomas Tuchel has been engineering a move for Fofana this summer as the side requires defensive reinforcement in the window. Despite having signed Marc Cucurella and Kalidou Koulibaly, Chelsea still need some changes to make in the squad for the season.
The exits of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have handed Tuchel a major blow in the defensive cover. However, the gaffer has immediately made signings with the latest one being Leicester’s ace Wesley Fofana as both parties reached an agreement.
Chelsea sign another defender this summer
Chelsea are set to announce the arrival of Wesley Fofana to Stamford Bridge from Leicester as the clubs agree on the transfer. Moreover, the fee for the move to the Bridge is somewhere in the region of £75m which has add-ons included.
The Foxes gaffer, Brendan Rodgers confirmed the player will be unavailable in the clash against Chelsea on the weekend away from home. In an interview, he said-
“He won’t be available for the weekend and has trained with the U23 squad,”
“My concentration is on the players that we have, and the team. I can’t lose energy.
If something will be done, it will be done with the clubs. Until that happens we just have to work with what we have.”
“Hopefully [there will be some transfer business done between now and the end of the window]. That would be really good for the team to be able to do that, to improve the squad is always important.
But until that changes, we will work with what we have.”
As for Chelsea, this signing was much required for the rest of the season to add more depth in defence. It will be interesting to see what Fofana can bring to the Bridge this season.
