Toby Alderweireld wants to leave Tottenham to reunite with Ajax

About Football Express UK

Tottenham’s centre back Toby Alderweireld wants to leave Tottenham and wants to play with his ex-club Ajax for the rest of his career.

The 32-year-old Belgium defender has brought to the notice of the North Londoners that he wants to leave the Premier League and end his career with his ex-club Ajax. The other clubs the Belgium defender has played for are Southampton and Atletico Madrid.

According to reports, Spurs can think of Toby Alderweireld’s demand of releasing him from the club as they are looking to bring young and fresh blood to their team like Takehiro Tamiyasu, Jules Kunde and Joachim Anderson. Tottenham are thought to sell him not below £25m as he has 2 years of contract remaining with the club and is not due to become a free agent until the end of the 2022-23 season.

Will Alderweireld leave Tottenham to play for Ajax?

The Belgium international centre back has made 236 appearances for North Londoners in all competitions and played all 90 minutes in each and every game. He has not won a single trophy with his current club. Thus, this can also be one of the reasons to leave this premier league club.

The partnership between two Belgium stars Toby and Jan Vertonghen in central defence during the peak Pochettino years was one of the highlights for their club of that era, and it’s sad to see that potentially coming to an end. It’s not surprising, but it’s still a punch to the gut.

Tottenham’s Alderweireld is a versatile defender in today’s time. Moreover, the Belgian defender has many pros and some cons in his game. Toby’s pros can be that he is a very good ballplayer. He can control the ball very well and can pass the ball to his teammates through short and long passes. The cons for the centre back are that he has a very slow pace so he cannot go upfront with his teammates to help them through crosses and assists for creating goal opportunities in the opponent’s D.
