Ten Hag and Man Utd can sign an Anthony Martial successor for nothing

Erik ten Hag

As Erik ten Hag searches for a long-term replacement for Anthony Martial, Manchester United has the chance to sign Lyon star Moussa Dembele for nothing in the summer. The striker previously rumoured to be moving to Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The club now has the chance to sign him without paying a big transfer fee.

The position is thought to be Ten Hag top priority, thus United will be on the hunt for a new No. 9 over the summer. There were hopes that Martial would claim the jersey this season. But he has been severely handicapped by injuries, while Wout Weghorst, who is on loan from Burnley, hasn’t always performed well. And isn’t expected to be around past the season’s end.

According to reports, the Red Devils are reportedly interested in signing Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen, and Benjamin Sesko in what would be headline-grabbing acquisitions. There might be a significantly less expensive alternative, allowing the team to invest in other areas.

Ten Hag in search of Martial’s replacement

Dembele will leave Lyon in the summer when his contract ends, according to Florian Plettenberg. Italian, German, and English clubs are all vying for his signing, but United might be able to take the lead because of their prior interest in him.

Dembele originally mentioned in connection with United in 2020. Solskjaer saw him as the ideal choice for his frontline. The curiosity persisted, and Ten Hag thought to have kept him in mind. While he searched for a striker during his first summer as manager.

Since joining Lyon from Celtic in 2018, Dembele has contributed significantly to the team, scoring 70 goals in 169 games. However, as Alexandre Lacazette has taken his place as the team’s primary striker, the goals have somewhat decreased this season. He has only scored three goals in all competitions this season and desperately needs a transfer to turn things around.
