This season has gone from bad to worse for Chelsea as they faced a humbling defeat of 4-0 by Manchester City in the FA cup. This has resulted in speculations of Graham Potter getting sacked after just months of him being appointed.
Blues manager received harsh criticism from Alan Shearer after the 4-0 defeat in the FA cup tie. The loss meant that Chelsea has only won one game in their last 9 games. Their last win was a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth
This performance has raised questions about the appointment of Graham Potter as the Chelsea coach. He has only won 6 games out of the 19 games in charge. They are also out of both domestic cups and are in the 10th position in the league.
The only hope for the title this season is the Champions League as they will be facing Borussia Dortmund in the RO16.
Graham Potter is not that behind in the list of managers getting the sack as only Frank Lampard is above him.
The world cup break was supposed to be a reset for the Blues but one win out of their four games after the league resumes has only increased the pressure on Graham Potter.
Alan Shearer on Graham Potter
During the assessment of the first half of the game, Shearer indirectly pointed toward Graham Potter getting sacked.
“They’ve been fantastic Manchester City from the very start of that first half until half-time. They’ve dominated all over the pitch and been sensational. But from a Chelsea point of view, it’s not acceptable that sort of performance,”
Shearer told the BBC.
“I said beforehand they need energy, character, all of those things. I don’t care how many injuries you’ve got in the team,. You can still go out and put a shift in. They haven’t. It’s embarrassing from their point of view.”
Shearer pointed towards Chelsea’s lack of effort when asked about the Foden goal.
“As good a goal that is from City’s point of view, from Chelsea’s that is nowhere near good enough. There’s no energy, no tackles, nothing. You’ve got to get closer.”
In criticism for Graham Potter, he said:
“It’s got to come from the manager. Just have a look at their body language out there. It’s as if ‘I don’t really want to be here’. They’re feeling sorry for themselves, We’ve got players out injured, I’m not sure I want to be out on the pitch”.
“It’s not acceptable and it’s not good enough, and nowhere near good enough for Chelsea.”
The future seems foggier than ever for Potter and a ray of sunshine is something he needs in this frosty season to prevent his job.
