Sanchez left out of the squad for Thursday night against Newcastle

Robert Sanchez has been left out of Thursday’s squad against Newcastle by his own request, says boss Roberto de Zerbi.Jason Steele became Albion’s first-choice keeper in March.

Spain international Sanchez, 25, has been on the bench in recent weeks, but was not in the squad in the win over Arsenal – and will not be again on Thursday.

De Zerbi said,

With Robert, we spoke before the Arsenal game and we decided together the best solution was for him to stay at home,” .

Sanchez was a surprise absentee from Albion’s matchday squad for Sunday’s 3-0 ,

Premier League win at Arsenal and will not be involved in Thursday’s game at Newcastle.

The 25-year-old Spain international lost his starting role to Jason Steele in early March,

Sanchez has been restricted to FA Cup appearances during the past three months,

Aside from playing in the 2-1 victory at Chelsea on April 15 when Steele was injured.

Meanwhile, De Zerbi confirmed Brighton are on the verge of completing a free transfer deal for 27-year-old Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud,

He is out of contract in this summer after the season .

Sanchez joined Brighton U18s from Levante’s youth setup in July 2013.

After graduating from the Brighton academy, he had loan spells at Forest Green and Rochdale to pick up senior experience.

The shot-stopper made his Seagulls debut in November 2020.

Sanchez soon went on to displace Matt Ryan as the club’s number one ,

He managed to 27 appearances that season, keeping 10 clean sheets.
