Red Devils will make a final push for signing Mason Mount

Boehly Mount Chelsea

Manchester United are ready to meet with Chelsea to talk about the lengthy bidding process for Mason Mount ‘s move. United pulled away from discussions at the end of last week, according to The Athletic, leaving their most recent £50 million + £5 million in add-ons proposal on the table. Chelsea quickly reacted with an offer of £58 million plus £7 million in add-ons. United had already had two bids for Erik ten Hag’s number one midfield target rejected, and they had grown dissatisfied with their London counterpart’s unreasonable demands. Mount, 24, is willing to wrap up his deal at Stamford Bridge. The England international’s current contract expires in a year.

Clouds of uncertainty over the future of Mason Mount

According to The Telegraph, the Old Trafford management cited Matteo Kovacic’s anticipated £25 million move to Manchester City as reason for their displeasure with Chelsea’s £65 million demand for Mount. Moreover The Croatian centre midfielder shares the same contract as his colleague.

Fabrizio Romano has said that United are willing to meet with Chelsea to finalise their third approach for Mount. Red Devils were planning this face-to-face meeting before Caicedo’s interest became public. John Murtough, the director of football, appears to have revived these direct conversations. Moreover Romano added that the two clubs will meet within the next 48 hours. He adds that that discussions will be completed by Thursday, with the scheduled meetings producing the “final decision.”

Journalist Ben Jacobs, who is currently gaining recognition for his seemingly on-point and detailed takeover updates, confirmed Romano’s report:

“Manchester United haven’t yet walked away from pursuing Mason Mount and there will be further club-to-club talks this week,” Jacobs stated.

“Their latest £50+5m offer, despite being officially rejected, remains on the table.

“Manchester United still want to get a deal done, so this could yet prove a big week. United have never been willing to pay more than £60m for Mount.”

Mount might be secretly pushing for a move to Old Trafford. However he hasn’t yet submitted a formal transfer request or declare his intentions clear.
