Pundit says £28m Arsenal player doesn’t look himself at the moment

Arsenal

David Raya has, once again, been making headlines after a poor performance for Arsenal at the weekend.

The Spaniard was, embarrassingly, lobbed by Mykhaylo Mudryk on Saturday evening, being caught out of position by the Ukrainian who put Chelsea 2-0 up on the day.

Raya was way out of position in that moment, and speaking on the Optus Sport Football Podcast, Mark Schwarzer has given his verdict on the £28m man.

The Australian says that Raya really doesn’t look himself at the moment, claiming that he’s lacking confidence at this moment in time.

Raya short on confidence

Schwarzer shared his verdict on the goalkeeper.

“It’s only a mistake now because David Raya is struggling under the scrutiny and the pressure. Look at the second goal vs Chelsea, he looked like someone who was completely out of sorts. He was so far out of position. He was so badly out of position. I would get it if he was guessing where it was going, but to be that far out of position, it’s a confidence thing. That’s what’s happening to him now,” Schwarzer said.

“I think he’s massively down on confidence, and, all round, I think Aaron Ramsdale is a better goalkeeper.”

As much as we hate to point fingers at a manager who is yet to lose a league game this season,

We have to conclude that Mikel Arteta hasn’t handled this situation well.

The last thing you want from your goalkeeper is a crisis in confidence, and, sadly, Raya has been put in this position.

The spotlight is firmly on the goalkeeper, and that makes it so much harder for him to just get on with his job.

As a goalkeeper, you want as little fuss as possible, but, due to Arteta’s management,

Raya is the most talked about player at Arsenal these days, and it’s not helping his performances.
