Offer rejected! Chelsea left-back wants to continue stay at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea

Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen has made up his decision and turned down the offer to join the Dutch league this summer.

Maatsen, who has a contract running till the summer of 2024 has decided against making a move from the Bridge. An offer from Feyenoord came knocking at the doors for the defender to make an exit.

Moreover, it was decided that the player would move from the Bridge this summer on a loan deal. Reports even claimed that he traveled to the Netherlands to seal the transfer.

However, Dutch outlet AD have reported that Maatsen is not keen to join the Eredivisie club and explained the gaffer of his stance.

Any chance for Maatsen at Chelsea?

The 20-year-old has rebuffed an exit from the Blues to join Feyenoord for the next season. Moreover, the defender seems determined to impress the gaffer at Chelsea to be included in the first-team setup.

Maatsen wants to take his chances showing his optimism about getting a spot in the regular squad under Thomas Tuchel. However, the underlying question is whether he really does have any space under Tuchel’s side?

It must be known that Chelsea is currently facing a void in the defensive position with the exits of Antonio Rudiger and Christensen. Azpilicueta’s future too seems up in the air and Tuchel has his doubts about the defence.

Maatsen has only made a single appearance for Chelsea back in 2019 in an EFL Cup match. Hoping to turn his fate this season, the left-back could use the void created in the defence to get his place.

However, with the pre-season about to begin in a few weeks, Tuchel will look into the defender very closely. The Blues boss is keen to bring in the likes of Matthijs de Ligt to his squad next season.

The transfer is still yet to go through as the talks are still ongoing for the Juventus defender. In any case, with the pre-season set to begin, Maatsen will look to impress Tuchel to find his spot.
