Metropolitan Police arrest 29-year-old Premier League player accused of rape

In a shocking revelation, the Metropolitan Police have arrested a Premier League player on suspicion of rape. However, the police have not named the player pertaining to legal reasons. The early hours of Monday, 4th of July, saw the arrest of the suspect. Police have further released a statement reporting some of the facts from the case.

As of now, the player is in custody for questioning and the following investigation. Furthermore, the Premier League is yet to comment on the situation as the police have not released the exact details. Nonetheless, the FA would certainly take note as this is the fourth case in the last12 months of sexual assault reported in the Premier League. Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson, Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy, and Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood are facing investigation for sexual offenses.

Though the Metropolitan Police have not released the player’s name, they have still provided some important details. Police arrested the Premier League player from Barnet, North London. As a result, rumors have already picked up pace speculating which North London club player the accused would be.

The Metropolitan Police in their statement over the Premier League player have remained tight-lipped.

“On 4 July an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to police. It was reported the alleged rape happened in June 2022. On 4 July a 29-year-old man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and taken into custody where he remains. Inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”

Further on, the player is reportedly due to represent his national team at the World Cup in Qatar. However, the dream seems to be over for the accused Premier League player now. The English top-flight is due to kick off in a month and the authorities already have some headaches to deal with.

The Scotland Yard are reportedly handling the case and will continue with the investigation. Meanwhile, the Premier League could also take action against the player as per multiple reports. On the other hand, the Premier League clubs are gearing up for their pre-season. While the transfer market is open as well, deals are taking place quickly and fast.
