Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Mauricio Pochettino will be desperate to reintegrate Christopher Nkunku into the Chelsea starting lineup once he returns from injury

Christopher Nkunku has sent his Chelsea teammates a message following their 4-1 win over Tottenham on Monday night. The 25-year-old forward, who joined the Blues from RB Leipzig in the summer for around £52million, is still yet to make his competitive debut for the club after picking up an injury in the summer.

He was dealt a blow to his knee during a pre-season clash against Borussia Dortmund in the United States and has been out of action ever since. The France international has recently stepped up his rehabilitation, but it’s believed that he’s still some way off from making his return from the treatment room.

Chelsea star predicted the result before the match

Last month, Nkunku posted pictures of himself in the gym, in the swimming pool and undergoing various medical tests. The Frenchman has also recently been spotted on the pitches at Cobham in his training gear,

Suggesting that he’s stepped up his recovery programme and closer to a long-awaited return.

While Nkunku may be on the sidelines nursing a knee injury,

He’s continued to support his teammates through the highs and the lows this season. Following Chelsea’s chaotic win over Tottenham, the forward posted a two-word message to his Instagram story.

“Derby win [love-heart eyes emoji],” wrote Nkunku, relaying the Blues’ full-time post. Before the London derby kicked off,

Daniel Sturridge described the Frenchman as a ‘huge miss’ and backed him to help the club become ‘much better’.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the former Chelsea and Liverpool striker said:

“I would have expected a few more points,

But what I will say is that he has a huge job on his hands in regards to there have been so many players coming into the football club.

“A recognised striker in terms of, do they have a goal-getter right now. Nkunku has been a huge miss for them and he is figuring out which is his best eleven at this moment in time.

He is trying to find in the system that he has, those players that can work and are able to put the ball in the back of the net.
