Micky van de Ven, Wolfsburg defender, is anticipated to sign with Tottenham Hotspur this summer in a €50 million deal. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham and Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg have reached an agreement on a €50 million transfer for Micky van de Ven. The Dutch defender is currently in route to London to have the required medical tests. The 22-year-old was a key component of Wolfsburg’s team this past season, and Spurs have taken note of his performances. This summer, the North London club need to add defensive reinforcements. Hence van de Ven should turn out to be a good long-term investment.

Tottenham Hotspur signs Micky van de Ven to strengthen the defensive backline

The Dutch defender demonstrated his abilities in the Bundesliga. Thus he is unquestionably gifted enough to compete well in the Premier League as well. The 22-year-old is highly skilled with the ball and will provide Tottenham’s defence some much-needed depth.

Ange Postecoglou, the new manager of Tottenham, favours flexible, offensive play. Therefore Spurs could definitely use his speed to recover from counterattacks. Right now, it seems like the rumoured €50 million sale is rather pricey. However, the 22-year-old has a bright future ahead of him and is a terrific talent. The Dutchman might turn out to be an important player for Tottenham in the upcoming seasons, which would ultimately make the investment worthwhile. He penned down a contract with Spurs until 2028 and will complete his medicals by Monday.

At first, Jurgen Klopp’s team was certain to be considering making a bid for the highly talented Dutch center-back, according to a report in the Daily Mail at the end of June. However they opted to go for ex-Man City midfielder Romeo Lavia rather than Micky. Thus, Spurs grabbed the golden oppurtunity to bring him at their club.

Spurs are considering to improve their midfield and defensive unit

Tottenham’s primary goal has always been to buy a defender because they conceded 63 goals in the Premier League last season. It will be interesting to see if they can improve the other aspects of their team before the new season begins. It is unclear at this time whether Tottenham will decide to sign more than one centre midfielder this summer given that they are still eyeing other defenders. For Micky, the chance to show off his skills in the Premier League will be pretty thrilling. He will aim to get started quickly and leave his mark on English football. Tottenham has also shown interest for Edmond Tapsoba, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Gleison Bremer. Ashley Phillips will likely play a significant role for the Spur’s first team in the upcoming season after the two parties reached an agreement to transfer him from Blackburn Rovers.
