Mauricio Pochettino hints at debut from £52m star against Everton

Pochettino

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has hinted that £52m star signing Christopher Nkunku might feature in the Everton game. Nkunku arrived from German side RB Leipzig in the summer. But he hasn’t been able to play for the blues in a competitive game yet due to an injury. After a recent defeat to the Red Devils in a 2-1 loss, the blues are relieved with Nkunku’s return. They have been missing sufficient firepower in the attack, and the Frenchman’s return might improve the situation. However, Pochettino has expressed doubt over his fitness as well so soon.

Pochettino in pre-match press conference before Everton game

Speaking in the pre-match press conference before the Everton clash, Pochettino said,

“Still assessing day by day, see tomorrow. I don’t believe that he will be involved but we need to assess day by day. We see also Malo Gusto but apart from that no.”

Nkunku’s return has been due after the International Break, assessing the player’s recovery. But Pochettino has been really slow and careful with the striker’s return to avoid risking the player’s fitness. But his comments about the Everton match suggests that the London club is assessing the player’s fitness. For the fans, it could be an optimistic approach to expect the new signing making a debut for Chelsea. Pochettino with his remarks hints that there might be a chance of the Frenchman’s feature against Everton.

Chelsea face Everton on Sunday at the Goodison Park

Chelsea are facing the Merseyside club on Sunday which could be a decisive fixture for Chelsea in the Premier League. They are far from the top right now, but Everton is closer to the bottom. Everton are looking to gain some winning momentum after recent wins against Nottingham and Newcastle. Playing away from Home it might be a big boost if Nkunku is played, and hopefully score some goals for the Blues.
