Mason Mount to Manchester United is a done deal now

Boehly Mount Chelsea

Mason Mount to Manchester United is a done deal now. The two clubs have reached a compromise after Chelsea originally demanded £70m for the England international. United have seen bids of £40m, £50m and £55m rejected by Chelsea.

Mount, 24, was set to enter the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge. And negotiations over a new deal had collapsed. Had he stayed at Chelsea, he could have left as a free agent next summer.

Mason Mount keen to make an impact at Manchester United

Mount leaves Chelsea having made 195 appearances for his boyhood club. He was part of the team which won the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel in 2021.

Mount, who has agreed personal terms with United, will next undergo a medical. And he will be part of Ten Hag’s squad for the preseason tour of the United States. Which begins in New York on July 20.

Arsenal were interested in him but was not going to pay that sort of money for him. The Gunners instead diverted their attention to his former teammate Kai Havertz. Arsenal felt that Havertz would be a better fit at Arsenal than Mount.

Mount felt undervalued, with his £80,000-a-week wages putting him outside the top 20 earners at Chelsea. He reportedly rejected an offer of around £200,000 per week back in November. It is because Raheem Sterling (£325,000 per week) and Reece James (£250,000 per week) were pulling in significantly more.

His move to United will see Mount move level with some of his peers. The Telegraph reports that Mount will be paid a basic wage of £250,000-a-week. While bonuses could push that figure up to £300,000-a-week.
