Gabriel Martinelli and Zinchenko are out for the rest of the season. Arsenal will play their remaining games without them. Arsenal will travel to Nottingham to face Nottingham Forest next week. The gunners will end their season with Wolves at home.
Martinelli and Zinchenko out till preseason
Moises Caicedo and Kaoru Mitoma did something brilliant. The Brighton midfielder made the challenge which resulted in Gabriel Martinelli being taken off in the early stages for Arsenal on Sunday. Them 2 were causing mayhem on the Arsenal left hand side. That caused martinelli to track back and injure himself. The Brazilian went off early in the defeat to Brighton, before being spotted in a protective boot at the Emirates Stadium.
The Brazilian forward last only 19 minutes of Sunday’s clash with Brighton after a sturdy challenge from Felipe Caicedo forced him off with an injury.
Unfortunately for Mikel Arteta, they were forced into a change just 20 minutes into the match. Gabriel Martinelli was brought down after a poor challenge from Moises Caicedo in the middle of the park vs Arsenal while Zinchenko was watching it. It must be noted that the referee did not deem Moises Caicedo’s challenge to be even worthy of a yellow card. But it came about after Martinelli himself was lucky to avoid punishment after an incident involving Mitoma.
Arteta said:-
“He’s in a [protective] boot at the moment. He was very uncomfortable, and he could not carry on playing. We need to scan him and see the extent of that injury.”
“With William, it’s for sure that he’s not going to be fit for this game. And we are doubting whether he will be fit for the next game as well,” he said last week.
“But we want to keep the hope going and make sure that we give ourselves the best chance of having them back.”
Arsenal boss has remained optimistic about Zinchenko’s chance of a return despite his reported absence for the final weeks.
Zinchenko came off in the second half of the recent win at Newcastle after picking up the issue.
Arsenal interested in Mount who could play Martinelli role
Arsenal want to secure him before he signs his new contract. He will be available for cheap this summer if he doesn’t extent his contract.
Where Mount fits into this Arsenal team is unknown. He may not be defensively sound enough to fit into Granit Xhaka’s role. Chelsea are in no rush to let the player leave. With the contract talks hitting a speed bump as of late. Liverpool won’t give up this transfer battle without a fight. Mason Mount would be a talent that would fit to any club. However, this is the best time to move in for a player like him. With contract talks on hold he is available for cheap than usual. Arsenal are looking to add homegrown talents to their squad.
One has to imagine that a move to the Emirates would be more alluring than a move to Anfield this summer. After all, Arsenal are set to have Champions League football next season. Mount is likely to want to stay in London having spent the vast majority of his life there.
Declan Rice and Mason Mount seems to be on their way. Regardless, it looks as though Arsenal are well and truly in this race. Mikel Arteta appears to be very serious about improving his midfield in this upcoming transfer window with both Mount and Rice linked.
