Marquinhos to Arsenal is nearly done as the winger agrees to 5-year contract

About Football Express UK

According to reports, Premier League giants Arsenal have reached a complete agreement with Sao Paulo winger Marquinhos. The young winger has agreed on a five-year contract with the gunners.

Marquinhos made his senior team debut last July. Since then he has made a total of 39 senior appearances for the Brazilian side Sao Paulo across all competitions. In this time he has recorded four goals and three assists. Three of these goals and one assist have come in this term. (stats via Transfermarkt)

Reports last month suggested that Arsenal were interested in the youngster. While reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano last week revealed that the Premier League giants had put in a bid worth €3.5 million. Reports now suggest that Arsenal have reached a full agreement with the Brazilain club. The Brazilain winger will sign a five-year contract with the club.

Can Marquinhos impact the Arsenal front line just like Gabriel Martinelli?

Just like Marquinhos, Gabriel Martinelli was also signed from Brazil. Big things were expected of the Brazilian left-winger. But Arsenal and Mikel Arteta have slowly introduced the forward into the Premier League rather than throwing him at the deep end. This seems to have paid off as the winger is enjoying the best campaign of his life this term. Gabriel Martinelli has recorded an impressive five goals and six assists in 34 appearances across all competitions this term. (stats via Transfermarkt)

The Arsenal faithful will be hoping that Marquinhos will have the same impact on the team that Gabriel Martinelli is having this term. But the young right-winger is looking to be a developmental signing. He will be slowly moving into the first team.

With the potential signing of Marquinhos. Arsenal now have one of the most exciting young front lines in the Premier League. The Brazilian youngster will join the likes of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Martin Ødegaard, and Gabriel Martinelli.

“he has helped more when he comes on”: Sao Paulo manager on the 19-year-old

The 19-year-old was out of the team by manager Rogerio Ceni in the 2-1 win over Cuiaba on Sunday. Talking about leaving the youngster out of the squad, Rogerio Ceni said:

“Marquinhos helps us especially when he enters the second half. He has helped more when he comes on, especially in the second half.”

“He is a good player in that three. That we use in attack because he helps, recomposes, runs from deep.”
