Luis Diaz will don the Legendary No. 7 shirt for Liverpool

Luiz Diaz

Luis Diaz will wear the No.7 jersey for Liverpool in the upcoming 2023-24 season. Prior to the start of the new season, the Colombia attacker will change his No.23 jersey he has worn since joining the club from FC Porto in January 2022. The number was just vacated by James Milner. Former midfielder Milner will join Brighton & Hove Albion when his contract expires this summer.

Luis Diaz will wear the iconic No.7 shirt in next season

Luis Diaz wore the No. 23 since his arrival from Porto at the start of 2022. The shirt was also worn by Jamie Carragher and Xherdan Shaqiri in the past. However, with the departures of James Milner, Naby Keita, and Roberto Firmino this summer, plenty of iconic numbers have become available.

Luis Diaz will wear the No. 7 shirt for Liverpool starting next season, the same number he wears for his national team on international duty. Diaz had previously worn seven at Porto. Prior to Milner, Liverpool icons such as Luis Suarez, Steve McManaman, and Harry Kewell wore the No.7 jersey. It was most notably associated with Kenny Dalglish, who wore it for ten successful seasons in the 1970s and 1980s, succeeding Kevin Keegan as Liverpool’s No. 7 jersey. Hence the No. 7 became legendary.

Supporters who had previously bought the 2023-24 replica home jersey with the name ‘Luis Diaz’ and the number ’23’ on it will be reimbursed directly by the attacker with a like-for-like swap for a ‘Luis Diaz 7’ shirt. All ‘Luis Diaz 23’ 2023-24 home jerseys or kits purchased at official club retail stores, the official LFC web store, or the LFC Retail app are eligible for the exchange. Any eligible clothing or equipment must be returned with evidence of purchase by July 31, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. BST.

Diaz’s decision to switch shirts follows an announcement of Liverpool’s new home kit for 2023/24. Moreover he will personally compensate individuals who already bought his No. 23 shirt.
