World Cup winner Bixente Lizarazu described Christopher Nkunku as a “complete player”. He believes Chelsea will benefit from his arrival at Stamford Bridge. Meanwhile, Lizarazu shared his thoughts on his fellow countryman’s move in an interview with Wettbasis.
Lizarazu expressed his belief that Christopher Nkunku will have a significant impact in the Premier League with Chelsea. The Blues previously finalized a £63m deal for Nkunku. With the forward having undergone his medical as early as September. Hence, the transfer has now been officially confirmed.
The ex footballer said about how Nkunku can progress at Chelsea: “His development was rapid and spectacular. He has become a complete player, capable of being used in almost any position in attack. This versatility also makes him so strong and important. His freshness and self-confidence made him a great player in an environment like Leipzig, where he was able to flourish. He took on more and more responsibility. Now he seems to be giving the impression that he’s ready for the next step.”
How can Nkunku become effective for Chelsea?
In his last season at RB Leipzig, Christopher Nkunku showcased an impressive performance, scoring 23 goals and contributing nine assists in 36 appearances. His outstanding contributions earned him the Bundesliga Golden Boot, highlighting his exceptional efforts.
Lizarazu highlighted Nkunku’s versatility, suggesting that Mauricio Pochettino of Chelsea could utilize him in various positions. However, the Argentine manager should primarily deploy the Frenchman as a No.10, operating behind the striker. Nkunku had already made 17 appearances in that role during the 2022/23 season.
Nkunku’s strengths lie in his ability to receive the ball in the gaps between the lines and advance forward, rather than functioning as a traditional No.9 with his back to goal. With a strong striker leading the attack and talented midfielders like Enzo Fernandez orchestrating the game, Nkunku will have all the necessary conditions to flourish at Chelsea.
