Liverpool want to extend Joel Matip’s contract. The Cameroon international has been n important players for the Reds since 2016. Moreover, he’s got over 200 appearances for Liverpool. However, there were rumors about his possible departure from the club after this season. The defender is already in the final years of his career and he may want to end his career somewhere else. However, as per some well informed sources, Jurgen Klopp is planning to extend Matip’s contract. Klopp is a huge admirer of the 32 year old centre back. He wants him to remain a Liverpool player.

According to footballinsider247, Jurgen Klopp wants Joel Matip to extend his contract despite his current scenario. Matip will be 33 when the next season starts. There’s a high probability that he’ll be made a backup option as the club is looking for a new senior centre back. However, Klopp admires the player and wants him to be a part of the team in the coming time. This news may act as a surprise for some people who were expecting the Cameroon international to leave after this season. In the meanwhile, Matip is out of the team due to the knee injury he suffered against Fulham last Sunday.

Liverpool want to extend Matip’s contract due to the trust they have in him.

Joel Matip arrived from FC Schalke on a free transfer in 2016. Since then, he’s made over 200 appearances for Liverpool. He has won the Champions league, Premier league, Fa Cup and what not. He has been a consistent performer for the Reds every season. If that’s not enough, he has made 14 appearances for Liverpool this season across all competitions so far. He even started in the club’s last 3 games before suffering an injury. Liverpool would definitely not want to let him go if he’s still capable of performing consistently at higher levels.
