Manchester United youth star James Garner wants to remain at the club next season and compete for a first-team spot. The midfielder who’s currently on loan at Nottingham Forest is impressing during his spell.

The 20-year-old was sensational against Premier League club Leicester City in an emphatic 4-1 victory in the FA Cup. The young midfielder proved instrumental as the Championship side dismantled favourites Leicester.

JAMES GARNER AND HIS MANCHESTER UNITED FUTURE

Garner’s performance has earned him rave reviews, with Arsenal legend Martin Keown urging United to ‘quickly’ recall the midfielder from his loan spell at the Forest Ground.

Manchester United even contemplated making a move for the midfielder in January. The Red Devils are short on options after the departures of a few players.

However, they decided against it in the end. United felt that Garner needs minutes and should stay at Forest till the end of the season.
The youngster has already started in 22 games for Forest this season. He is one of their key players as they look to make the playoffs.

PLAYER HISTORY

Garner made his United debut in March 2019 against Crystal Palace. He was touted as a potential replacement for Ander Herrera by former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

Garner has not played for United since December 2019, having been on loan at Watford and Forest the last term. However, his contract was extended until 2024 as part of his return to the City Ground in August.

The former Under-18 captain travelled on United’s last two pre-season tours under Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho and was involved in United’s summer friendlies.

GARNER’S CHANCE TO SHINE

Manchester United Evening News reports that Garner now feels ready to compete for a spot in the first team. The 20-year-old doesn’t want to go out on loan again. He’s confident about staying at the club under United’s new manager.

United are already set to lose Paul Pogba as he’s out of contract in the summer. Plus Donny van de Beek’s future is more uncertain than ever. He could leave as well depending upon the new manager.

Therefore, using Garner next season would make sense for United. The 20-time Premier League Champions want to bolster their squad with a new midfielder and are looking at options. One of them is Declan Rice although his price tag might be a problem.
