Gary Neville acknowledges that Liverpool is not yet a title contender. However he predicts that the Reds would finish in the top four of the Premier League this new season. The Sky Sports pundit suggested during an appearance on the Overlap that Liverpool might finish in the top four ahead of teams like Newcastle United, Chelsea, and Tottenham.
Liverpool might finish in top 4 this season according to Gary Neville
When questioned about Liverpool’s chances in the Premier League for the upcoming season, Neville remarked:
“I don’t look at Liverpool at the moment and think ‘wow’ they are going to be challenging Arsenal or City for the league.”
Neville was asked to pick the top eight teams in the Premier League. Garry Neville responded: “I think Arsenal, City, Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Villa, Newcastle, and Tottenham.”
Even though Liverpool made good acquisitions this summer, they still lack key players in important areas. Hence most supporters would agree that a lot more work needs to be accomplished by this season. The Reds will have to improve their defensive ranks too before they contend for the Premier League championship once more. A return to Europe’s top flight should be Liverpool’s top aim in the upcoming season. The team missed out on a spot in this year’s UEFA Champions League. However they still can be a ‘favourite’ to win the Europa league for this season.
Although it remains difficult for Liverpool supporters to agree on Neville, the former Manchester United captain has accurately assessed the team that plays at Anfield. While Liverpool might contend depending on who they sign, the Reds simply need to concentrate on the top-four fight as Arsenal and City are by far the two strongest teams in the Premier League going into the new season. In the league, Liverpool are capable of defeating anyone on any given day. However Jurgen Klopp’s team needs to restore their confidence to challenge teams like City and Arsenal. Klopp must reignite the old spark in order to finish in the top four at the end of the following campaign.
