Arsenal are more likely to target a centre-forward signing in the summer than in the January transfer window, according to David Ornstein.
Writing in his Ask Ornstein Q&A for The Athletic this week, David Ornstein reported that as things stand,
he doesn’t believe Arsenal are focusing on signing a striker in January.
Ornstein thinks a centre-forward signing is more likely to be on Arsenal’s agenda in the summer, though an injury or a bid for one of the club’s current forward options could change things.
For now, Arsenal are more likely to rely on their existing options to get them through the rest of the season.
Despite the departure of Folarin Balogun in the summer, Arsenal do still have a number of options up front this season.
Will Arsenal sign more centre-back ?
Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus are two of the obvious choices, and both have played up front for Mikel Arteta’s side already this season.
Then there’s Kai Havertz, who finished the 1-0 win over Manchester City in a central role,
Assisting Gabriel Martinelli’s winning goal.
Leandro Trossard played up front when Nketiah and Jesus were injure last season,
He done so briefly on a couple of occasions this campaign.
Arsenal have been link with Ivan Toney recently, but there have been some suggestions that the rumours are coming more from Toney’s side at the moment.
If Ornstein’s suspicions about Arsenal’s intentions for the January window are correct,
It may well be the case that Toney is more interested in the move than the Gunners are.
