Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy admitted Arsenal’s success this season has made him feel “sick”. Arsenal are challenging for the Premier League title this year. Arsenal sits at the top of the table with 75 points from 33 games.

Tottenham under Levy

Levy has been Tottenham’s chairman for the past 22 years. While he has overseen enormous growth at the club both on and off the pitch, his stewardship has only delivered one trophy. The League Cup back in 2008.

Yet, the 61-year-old’s tenure in north London has also seen Tottenham upset the balance in north London, with the club having not finished below fierce rivals Arsenal since the 2015-16 season.

This season has been a different story. Tottenham are languishing in fifth, three points adrift of the top four while Arsenal are on the cusp of claiming their first title in 19 years.

Antonio Conte’s acrimonious rant triggered a self-inflicted exit before the director of football Fabio Patrici stepped down from his role. Patrici is in an investigation for false accounting while working at Juventus.

This has ultimately left Spurs in a period of limbo with no manager, no clear sporting direction, and three points off Champions League qualification having played a game more than those around them.

Coupled with a whole host of Europe’s elite also in the market for a new head. With Chelsea, PSG, and possibly Real Madrid, Spurs may struggle to attract the names on their managerial shortlist.

Daniel Levy will have to try and navigate this latest period of uncertainty. He admitted that Tottenham’s trophy-baron run throughout his time at the top is a record that causes him and the club great frustration.

He said in an interview at the Cambridge Union last month:

“Obviously the ultimate is to win trophies and that is clearly what we are trying to do, it’s easier said than done.“Am I happy about the fact we have won one trophy in the last 15 years? Absolutely not.”
