Chelsea winger “walking past defenders”: Aaron Lennon

Chelsea

Chelsea have been returning to form recently with some big wins. With some of the players getting their form back. Chelsea defeated Tottenham at a comfortable 4-1 win and drew against Man City 4-4 in a thrilling match. But one player has stood out for former Spurs player Aaron Lennon. The ex-Spurs player had interesting thoughts on Raheem Sterling. On Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel FIVE, Lennon was discussing Sterling’s exclusion from the England squad by Gareth Southgate. Even Graham Souness did not agree with Gareth Southgate’s decision to leave the Chelsea winger out.

Raheem Sterling’s performance this season

Aaron Lennon who himself played as a winger for Spurs, praised Sterling for his pace and dribbling. Lennon expressed that despite talks of the 28-years-old slowing down after his injury, he has been phenomenal this season. He said,

“He’s on fire this season. He said he had an injury last season and he wasn’t really at his best and stuff, but this season he’s come out firing. He’s walking past defenders again. He’s creating chances, scoring goals.”

The Chelsea winger has scored four goals so far this season including a goal against his former club and current champions Man City.

What’s ahead for the Chelsea winger

By not being called up by England National team, Pochettino has one less potential injury to worry about. The Argentine has given chances to the winger and he has proved himself when he has played. Raheem’s dribble stats also back up what Lennon said, against City he had four completed dribbles. Only fewer than Phil Foden in that match. Sterling was always known for his quick feet and pace on the wings, and the classic Raheem Sterling seems to be coming back in form. This might just be in time for his National team as well, with UEFA Euro 2024 just around the corner.
