Chelsea to give up on Nkunku transfer

About Football Express UK

According to German news reports, Chelsea is willing to give up on trying to recruit Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig.
The 24-year-old was being considered by the Blues as a possible replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who is almost certainly joining Inter Milan for the upcoming campaign, according to Sport Bild.

Last season, the Frenchman had a standout season with Leipzig. In the Champions League, RB Leipzig had to face featuring Manchester City and PSG. However, he also performed brilliantly. He netted seven goals in the group stages of the Champions League.

Since making his France debut in March, he has earned six caps. This has captured the attention of the French national team selectors.

The striker has reportedly attracted interest from elite teams across the globe, with Chelsea reportedly one of those clubs.

Chelsea see too many setbacks

Sport Bild claims that the Blues’ attempts to sign the France international suffered too many setbacks.

According to reports, Chelsea believes the Nkunku acquisition will cost them around £90 million. However, they have already informed the player’s agent that this sum would be excessive.

Several other teams have also been connected with a bid for the 24-year-old, including Manchester United, PSG, and Real Madrid.

Nkunku appears to be close to agreeing to a new contract with Leipzig. However, there is an affordable release clause set to be added. This release clause to going to be 60 million euros. This means that if Chelsea wait, then they can get him for much cheaper new season.

This means that even though they will likely encounter competition for his signature, the club would be well served to hold off until they can activate that.

If the striker is forced to choose his next club, Chelsea will be hoping that Thomas Tuchel’s interaction with the Frenchman at PSG will have some bearing.
