Chelsea suffers a setback as Brighton rejects their bid for Caicedo

About Football Express UK

Moises Caicedo’s dream transfer from Brighton to Chelsea could once again be in jeopardy. The Ecuadorian midfielder was unable to secure a move to Arsenal in January. Despite a potential deal worth around £75 million. Chelsea’s recent offer of £80 million was quickly turned down by Brighton’s transfer decision-makers on the south coast.

The 21-year-old is reportedly ready to leave the club. That is two years after joining from Independiente del Valle for a fee of approximately £4.5 million.

Moreover, Chelsea will be exploring the possibility of signing Romeo Lavia from Southampton. This is a transfer that might be more cost-effective due to the player’s parent club facing relegation.

Can Chelsea bag in Caicedo?

According to The Athletic, Caicedo remains eager to depart from Brighton, even after signing a new contract until 2027 earlier this year. However, club owner Tony Bloom is standing firm in his position, although he may reconsider if a bid in the vicinity of £100 million is received.

The report also indicates that Chelsea is exploring alternative options, with Romeo Lavia from Southampton being one of their considerations. Notably, Liverpool has shown keen interest in signing Lavia as well, making him a central target for both clubs.

During a pre-season match, Caicedo came off the bench for Roberto Di Zerbi’s team in their 2-0 victory against Brentford. The manager acknowledged that the player’s future is uncertain at this point.

Meanwhile, the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino provided a boost for Chelsea. Since the manager will welcome new signings following a series of departures from the club. Hence Chelsea fans will need to trust their manager for the unthinkable.
