Chelsea starlet Gilmour to leave on loan

About Football Express UK

Chelsea would be reportedly allowing Billy Gilmour to move out on loan to another club as per the youngster’s request. The Blues are famous for their development of their key players. Those players were impressive as a result of their loan stints at different clubs.

The 19-year-old midfielder is set to follow fellow teammate Mason Mount’s path of playing across different clubs on loan. The youngster has now made two national appearances for Scotland and would be keen on taking his development to another level.

Although he has two more years left at his contract, a loan deal would be a better option as he will get more playing time at the respective club.

Billy Gilmour could get more playing time away from Chelsea

Billy Gilmour joined Chelsea after impressive performances at Scottish giants Rangers. However, the main obstacle for him is the lack of playing time. There’s too much competition in the midfield section and as a result, he might not get much exposure to the players in the Premier League.

The Scottish youngster had made 22 appearances so far and is highly praised by current boss Tuchel. It was a phenomenal season for him as Chelsea lifted the Champions League and now he is featuring in the Euro 2020 representing Scotland.

Tuchel has great respect for him about his work ethics and how well he plays. In the match against Fulham, the Scot was given the nod by the manager and Tuchel said as follows,

“He’s waited long, worked hard, and I don’t want him to overdo stuff. It’s pretty exciting for him…”

However, Chelsea are rumoured to sign yet another midfielder which could be Saul Niguez or Jonas Hofmann. Thus, the competition would get better and it would not be a bad idea for Gilmour to get more opportunities when on loan. Earlier, his former club, managed by Steven Gerrard were interested in signing him on loan.
