Chelsea player rating: Blues hammer Leeds 3-0 to strengthen hold on third-place

Wright Chelsea's Potter

Chelsea were back to winning ways after their crumbling draw in the last game against Wolves. The Blues scored three past a 10-men Leeds United at Elland Road to win all three points. However, the defeat for Leeds means their chances of survival have gone from bad to worse. Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic and Romelu Lukaku were the scorers for Chelsea as we drop the rating for every Blues’ player.

Chelsea player rating: Defense

Edouard Mendy- 6/10

Almost had nothing to do as Leeds never looked threatening on the offence. However, the ‘keeper would be happy with his first clean-sheet in five games.

Trevor Chalobah- 8/10

Slotted in the starting line-up and played as if he hasn’t missed a game in a while. Gave no room for Leeds’ attackers to create anything, and attempted a whopping 140 passes, more than any other Chelsea player. Further added a 100% tackle success rate, 8 recoveries and 6 duels won.

Andreas Christensen- 6/10

A decent game for the Dane. Tidy performances at the back and misplaced just two passes out of attempted 120.

Antonio Rudiger- 5/10

His constant charging forward early on almost caught Chelsea on the counter, and the Blues’ players had to commit tactical fouls to contain the counters.

Midfield

Reece James- 9/10

Brilliant as always. Some dazzling footwork in the Leeds’ penalty area saw him assist Mount for the opener. A massive 5 dribbles, 10 duels won, 2 tackles and countless threatening crosses in his 78 minutes. Highest rating among any other Chelsea player

Jorginho- 7/10

A really good game from the Italian in a while. Solid in his defensive mid’s role, winning all his duels and coming up with 11 recoveries.

Mateo Kovacic- N/A

A shame that Daniel James’ horror tackle ended the game after just 30 minutes for Kovacic. But otherwise was on course to put another astute performance.

Marcos Alonso- 6/10

A complete game from Alonso. Contributed equally to the offence as well as the defence. Some really good-looking crosses in the Leeds’ box, and neatly won his duels while taking the attack.

Attack

Mason Mount- 9/10

Brilliant outing from the midfielder. Beautifully took his goal and provided an inch-perfect lay-off assist for Pulisic. The only other Chelsea player who ties James’ highest rating.

Romelu Lukaku- 7/10

Didn’t exactly carry his form from the last game, but showed for the Blues. Unlucky however as his first goal, a lob over the Leeds ‘keeper was ruled off-side. But got his name on the score sheet from close range.

Christian Pulisic- 7/10

Perfect placement to bag a goal, however, nothing exciting as such was offered by him throughout the game. Kalvin Philipps did his job in keeping Pulisic quiet.

Substitutes

Ruben Loftus-Cheek- 6/10

Came on for Kovacic in the 30th minute. As usual, helped Chelsea with his physical dominance in the midfield. However, he didn’t influence the game as much as Kovacic could have.

Cesar Azpilicueta- 6/10

Came on for Reece James in the 78th minute. Brought on to seeing off the game, and did his job. Left no room for mistake unlike his last couple of games.

Hakim Ziyech- 7/10

Came on for Pulisic in the 78th minute. Another decent cameo from Ziyech here, however grabbing an assist this time, for Lukaku’s goal.
