Chelsea midfielder rejects £200,000 contract as he wants similar salary to teammate

Boehly Mount Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has reportedly rejected a £200,000 a week contract since he wishes for a salary similar to that of teammate Raheem Sterling’s.

Mason Mount has emerged as a prominent player at Stamford Bridge during the last few years. After returning from loan, Mount has become a fan-favorite at Chelsea. The attacking midfielder has become one of the Blues’ best players and a key starter.

The Englishman is currently representing his country at the World Cup in Qatar. Thus, negotiations regarding a contract extension have been put on hold. However, reports in England indicate that these negotiations are not going as smoothly as hoped.

Where do Mason Mount and Chelsea stand?

Reports from the Daily Mail indicate that Mount has rejected a £200,000 a week offer. He is currently seeking a salary comparable to his teammate and fellow Englishman Raheem Sterling. Sterling currently earns roughly £300,000 a week. A raise to this degree would make Mount one of the highest earners in the Premier League.

Mason Mount is currently one of the lowest earners in the club as its stands. While some may view the desire for such a raise as understandable, but this would put him ahead of the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Phil Foden, Virgil van Djik, Harry Kane, and fellow Chelsea players Kalidou Koulibaly and N’Golo Kante in terms of wages per week.

If negotiations between the parties turn sour, other clubs (Liverpool and Manchester United among others) might be interested in recruiting Mount’s services.
