Chelsea will make fresh attempts to sign RB Leipzig ace Joško Gvardiol. According to reports from Italy, the Blues have a meeting set to discuss signing the 20-year-old, likely after the World Cup.
Chelsea is currently in contact with Gvardiol’s agents, and work is currently proceeding to secure a transfer.
The Blues already have one of the best defenses in the League. However, new coach Graham Potter would be eager to revamp his back line from scratch. He would also be looking for replacements for the aging Thiago Silva.
What can Chelsea get from this signing?
Gvardiol has been identified as a top target for Graham Potter’s rebuild of the Blues. A versatile defender who can operate as both Centre-back and left-back, Gvardiol’s play style suits Potter’s tactics and style.
A summer move for the Croatian failed despite a hefty €80m bid. While Gvardiol was not ready for a move last summer, now he is ‘ready for the big leap’. Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly interested in the defender. Thus Chelsea is ready to do everything and anything to sign Gvardiol.
Should the transfer go through, fellow Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku may end up joining Stamford Bridge as well, with heavy speculation regarding a potential contract with the Blues.
