Bayern Munich on the lookout to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea

FC Bayern Munich

According to reports, Bayern Munich initiated discussions to potentially acquire Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Bundesliga champions elevated the signing of a new goalkeeper to one of their foremost priorities for the remaining duration of the summer transfer window. This focus comes after the sale of Yann Sommer to Inter earlier this week. And with Manuel Neuer’s return still distant following his leg injury sustained during a skiing excursion last December.

Bayern Munich had engaged in discussions with Brentford regarding David Raya. But the Spanish goalkeeper is now ready to join Arsenal. Mikel Arteta’s team has reportedly reached an agreement for a £30 million deal. Thus, marking a significant development in Raya’s transfer situation.

With their pursuit of David Raya thwarted, Bayern Munich is now actively exploring alternative options. As reported by Sport1, the club has commenced “initial talks” with Chelsea concerning a potential deal for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

What makes Bayern Munich to show interest in Kepa?

The report suggests that Thomas Tuchel has personally put forth a recommendation for Kepa Arrizabalaga to Bayern’s decision-makers. This stems from their shared time at Chelsea and reflects Tuchel’s endorsement of the Spanish goalkeeper.

Under Tuchel’s tenure, Kepa relinquished his position as Chelsea’s primary goalkeeper. Since, Tuchel leaned towards Edouard Mendy as his preferred choice in goal.

With Edouard Mendy’s move to the Saudi Pro League this summer, it is anticipated that Kepa Arrizabalaga will take up the starting goalkeeper role for Chelsea in their Premier League opener against Liverpool this Sunday.

Chelsea bought Kepa for a £71.6 million fee from Athletic Bilbao, still has two years remaining on his contract, which encompasses a weekly wage of approximately £190,000.

Bayern Munich should hurry up if they don’t want to miss out on a decent goalkeeper.
