Aston Villa searching for Gerard replacement: Potter, Pochettino targeted

About Football Express UK

A struggling Aston Villa side is searching for a new manager to replace Steven Gerard. Reportedly, they have a strong interest in Brighton’s Graham Potter as a replacement. Mauricio Pochettino is also high on the list of targets after a wretched start to this year’s campaign.

The Midland side has struggled to produce results over the course of the last season. Manager Steven Gerard was even booed off the stadium after a 1-0 loss to West Ham. The Liverpool legend’s position as manager is thus not secure.

Who are Aston Villa’s top targets?

One of the top contenders for the job as Aston Villa’s head is Brighton’s, Graham Potter. The  47-year-old has expressed interest in the post. He grew up reportedly supporting Villa, and many of his friends continue to do so today.

Another impressive contender for the job as the Aston Villa boss is former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino. Pochettino has had an impressive resume, including reaching the Champions League final with Spurs. He was only recently sacked from PSG, with Christophe Galtier taking his place.

Steven Gerard has struggled to turn around an out-of-form Aston Villa, since his arrival last November. They currently sit 15th in the table, with only one win and three losses giving them three points. Their next fixtures are difficult ones against league leaders Arsenal and title contenders Manchester City, away and home respectively.
