Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz planning to leave on a Free Transfer

About Football Express UK

Brazillian midfielder Douglas Luiz has not moved from the club despite interest from many parties over the summer. However, it is almost certain he will be walking from the club in the future.

The defensive midfielder was a source of great speculation in the closing days of the transfer window. Multiple clubs were interested in signing him, including Milan and Arsenal. AC Milan had reportedly ‘approached’ the midfielder many times. Fellow Premier League side Arsenal had reportedly made three bids on deadline day, the final bid being about £25m.

Luiz had reportedly agreed on personal terms with Arsenal who were interested in bringing in another midfielder due to injury problems. He was about to sign a 5-year deal with the Gunners, but the Villa board rejected all three bids they made on deadline day. Arsenal also refused to overpay for the Brazillian, having spent well over £100m for their second successive transfer window.

Douglas Luiz’s future decided: What next?

Multiple reports suggest that Luiz has decided against signing a new contract with Villa. The Brazillian has constantly been one of the better performers on Steven Gerard‘s struggling side.

Reports say that Luiz’s intention is to remain in the Premier League where he’s ‘happy and adapted’.

Meanwhile, Arsenal seems to have moved on from Luiz. They intend to try for a winter move for fellow Brazillian Danilo and seem to be laying the groundwork for the move currently. The midfielder is keen for a move and is worth around £20m from Palmeiras.
