Arsenal has approached Lyon to sign defensive midfielder Bruno Guiamaraes. Bruno is a regular starting XI player and has also made 5 appearances in the Europa League.
Bruno told Globo via GFFN
“Arsenal approached my agent, but there was no offer. My aim, and I made it clear to Juninho (Lyon’s sporting director), is to win a title with Lyon,”
“The fans have not had one for a long time. We have the Coupe de France, the Europa League and the league. It is difficult with the level that PSG are at, but anything can happen.
“My aim is to win a title here, but I have never hidden my desire to play in the Premier League.”
Guiamaraes currently has a contract with Lyon till 2024 whereas Arsenal is currently looking for a replacement for Maitland Niles who is on a loan move at Roma.
Why Arsenal should consider alternatives for Bruno Guiamaraes?
Currently, Mikel Arteta is looking to bring in reinforcements as the Gunners are pushing to make it to the top 4. Many reliable sources also state that the club can sign Dusan Vlahovic for £70 million.
This hinders the financial room for the Gunners. According to reports, Guiamaraes will cost around £45 million for Arsenal but it is still a very difficult deal. Hence, the club has already started looking for alternatives and are pushing for Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo.
Arthur Melo has also fallen down the pecking order at Juventus behind the likes of Locatelli, Rabiot and Bentancur.
Melo is better than Guiamaraes in many aspects and is a suitable option for Arsenal. The ex Barcelona player had played regular football across Europe and in La Liga as well. Bruno on the other hand is less experienced in comparison and is also slow at recovering the ball.
When it comes to defensive actions, Arthur has better numbers in tackles made leading to ball retention. Melo made 2.33 tackles p90 whereas Bruno made 2.20. Arthur is also better when it comes to passing accuracy as well. (Source: Fbref)
