Pep Guardiola on Liverpool and Arsenal as a title contender

About Football Express UK

Manchester City will be clashing with Liverpool this weekend and both of them currently are on very different path.

City are comfortable with 13 points lead on the reds and would love to extend it more this weekend.

During the press conference, pep neglected arsenal as a title challenger and still considers Liverpool as their main rival.

This statement seems weird because arsenal are currently on top of the league and looking in an unstoppable form.

For pep though, the current standings do not define anything as he still believes that Liverpool will bounce from 10th position to being in the title race.

Pep on Arsenal and Liverpool

Asked if Liverpool were still the main rival, Guardiola said:

“Always have been, always it is, and will be. I know the quality they have, the character.

“If I answered this question with five or 10 games left I’d say I think Liverpool cannot catch the top of the league – in this case Arsenal – but being in the position we are and with the World Cup still to come, everything can happen.

“The opinion I have about this team does not change because of their situation in the table, not for one second. It always has been difficult in the years since we arrived together so it’s a tough game. The game will be dictated by what happens on the pitch, not because we are in front or behind.”

Claims of the Catalan can be a prediction for the future or maybe reminding them that their opponent’s next match is still a strong team.

last year both the teams played a 2-2 draw in the league but in the FA cup semi-final and community shield, Liverpool came out on top.

Anfield the best stadium? Is Haaland fit for the match?

“I always had the feeling in Anfield that we behaved really well,”

said Guardiola.

“Maybe in the last two games we were a little bit soft, in different circumstances, but you have to behave at the top, top level with and especially without the ball, and being active on the second balls and many, many things.

“But in Anfield, win or lose, we always behaved with huge personality. One of the biggest and nicest (stadiums) – it’s a joy to be there and part of this type of game.”

Haaland (via transfermarket) was rested in the champions league and pep is eagerly waiting to release him against the Merseyside

Guardiola added:

“He was tired, and Bernardo and others as well, but they feel good and are ready for Sunday.”
