30-years-old Chelsea loanee breaks International goals record

Lukaku to be seen in Newcastle

With the UEFA Euro Qualifiers 2024 in play, many players have been selected for International duty. Belgium faced Azerbaijan in the European Qualifiers match where Romelu Lukaku scored 4 goals for Belgium. The Chelsea loanee broke the record for most goals scored in a European Qualifiers campaign. Lukaku has now scored 14 goals surpassing Robert Lewandowski and David Healy who both had 13 in Euro 2008 and 2016 Qualifiers respectively.

A good loan spell at AS Roma

Belgium thrashed Azerbaijan 5-0, out of which four of them were scored by the 30-years-old striker. Currently on loan at AS Roma, Lukaku has been impressive this season at the club level too. In 14 matches for the Serie A side, he has scored 9 goals. Lukaku is the all time top goal scorer for Belgium with 83 goals in 113 appearances. Even at this age, he has been scoring goals in big stages for club and country. Lukaku has been crucial to ex-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho’s side in scoring goals this season.

Should Chelsea hold on to Lukaku for goals?

Chelsea have failed to be clinical in front of the goal this season. However, recently some of the young players have stepped up their game for the blues. Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson have been performing well, scoring against Tottenham and Man City. The wins against Spurs and City gave a much needed morale boost to the squad for the blues.
It is evident that the London club is having issues at the front with lack of a prolific striker. And watching Lukaku playing so well might make Pochettino consider the possibility of keeping him at the Stanford bridge after his loan spell. But the main issue with his stay is his willingness to play for Chelsea. Ultimately, It is up to the player to decide as well whether he will continue playing for Chelsea.
