Simon Jordan questioned Chelsea’s decision to sign £100k per week player

Simon Jordan has suggested that Chelsea may be signing the wrong players, which includes Mykhailo Mudryk.

Chelsea signed Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk for £89m (BBC Sport) at the start of the year, but the winger has struggled at Stamford Bridge.

Simon Jordan, who was speaking on talkSPORT yesterday, has now questioned the club’s recruiting of Mudryk and their business as a whole.

The 22-year-old has shown some promise this season. He has goals against Arsenal and Fulham and really shone in his side’s last outing against Everton.

While Mauricio Pochettino‘s men went on to lose 2-0, Mudryk still managed to record five dribbles at Goodison Park, more than any other player on the day (WhoScored).

In Mudryk, Jordan thinks Chelsea now have a wide man who looks like he cannot even run with the ball.

Speaking about the club and the Ukrainian on talkSPORT, he said:

“If they’re [the owners] not complaining about the price point, we then need to look at the players and say, ‘Have they bought the wrong players?’ Put aside the price point, did they buy the wrong players because Mudryk was a player that everyone was after.

“It wasn’t just Chelsea that were after Mudryk, it was a group of players, and the reason why Chelsea got him is because they were prepared to pay more money than everyone else. That’s why they got him. And all of a sudden, this boy can’t run with the ball.”

It is a bit harsh to describe Mudryk as a player who cannot run with the ball. As highlighted earlier, his dribbling against Everton the other day was excellent.

He can be a bit chaotic at times and look in a hurry, but the Ukraine international, who earns £100,000 a week in west London (Spotrac), is a good dribbler and is improving.

Scoring two goals this season does not scream clinical forward, but last term Mudryk failed to register for Chelsea at all.

Despite showing signs of improvement, talkSPORT host Jeff Stelling has also been critical of Mudryk and says he cannot understand why Pochettino keeps playing him.
