Romeo Lavia completes his medicals after Chelsea signs him for £55m

Chelsea Bid

Romeo Lavia will join Chelsea from Southampton for £58 million. Lavia has passed his medicals yesterday. The agreement is worth £53 million plus $5 million in add-ons. Lavia recently made it obvious he wants to move to Chelsea, despite Liverpool and Southampton having reached an agreement on a deal worth £60 million on Sunday night. Chelsea already snatched Moises Caicedo away from Liverpool. Caicedo left Brighton for the Blues for a British record-breaking £115 million. Chelsea still wants to add more reinforcements after spending a massive sum of £975m this summer.

Romeo Lavia pens down a deal worth £55m with Chelsea

After missing out on a record-breaking $115 million deal for Moisés Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion, the Reds eventually offered a competitive bid in the vicinity of $65 million for the player. Brighton accepted their offer immediately. But as per reports, Lavia chose to move to Stamford Bridge over Merseyside, creating a repeat of the previous situation. Romeo Lavia also completed his medicals yesterday. The midfielder is set to be unvieled as Chelsea player soon officially.

Lavia played in 29 Premier League games last year and managed to score one goal. He averaged almost two tackles each game, with a 58 percent success rate. In each game, the Belgian intercepted the ball at a rate of 1.13 times average and recovered the ball 6.44 times every 90 minutes. Thats a terrific display as a defensive midfielder.

It’s unlikely that Lavia will immediately become a starter at Stamford Bridge despite his ability and consistency he showed for the Southampton in the Premier League last season. The Belgian might pair up with Caicedo in the middle of the park, though, once he gets settled into his rhythm. Using Caicedo and Lavia alongside would provide Pochettino an enormous amount of midfield stability even though their profiles are relatively similar.

Chelsea are also trying to offload Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Gallagher, Chukwuemeka and Ugochukwu after signing Caicedo and Lavia. Chelsea might add another attacker before the summer transfer window closes. Liverpool, on the other hand, will be resuming their hunt for a defensive midfielder following two unsuccessful efforts. The only good option left for them is Khephren Thuram.
