Will Lewandowski leave the Bundesliga in search of a new challenge?

Robert Lewandowski has been in excellent form in the 2020/21 season. He topped Gerd Muller’s record of most goals in a single season in the Bundesliga.

The Polish international has won the League seven times with Bayern Munich. He has also scored 5 goals in 9 minutes in the Bundesliga. There are many records which Lewandowski has but there are suggestions that he might leave Bayern Munich.

According to the Athletic, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea are interested in signing him.

Robert Lewandowski has definitely made his name in football but maybe is looking for a new challenge.

Is the Bundesliga a ” Farmers League”?

The term ” farmers league” is stupid and football fans coined it out of amusement. It is factual that as of now excluding the PL and La Liga, the other 3 leagues are considered inferior. The top 5 leagues currently are PL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Serie A.

They might be inferior in terms of competition and quality of players but they are not a “farmers league”.

The UEFA coefficient is used to judge rankings of leagues. This means that the performances of these teams in Europe are important. The Bundesliga is third in this currently below PL and La Liga.

The second method is player performance when switching leagues. The xG and xA are monitored to judge the new player. There is also a possession value model.

Despite such reliable methods being present, not many people use them to judge leagues.

Another important aspect for Bundesliga and Ligue 1 is the developing youngsters. Especially in the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund just like before having great youngsters at their hands.

Let’s talk about the present, as of now Florian Wirtz, Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham are playing in the ” farmers league”. Bayern has won the league 7 times in a row but this does not mean that the league is bad. If these players were to play in the Premier League then they would be overhyped.

There are several talents between RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.

It is factual that the Premier League is the best currently but this should not have any other implication. The implication is that other leagues, especially the Bundesliga, is low-level league or “farmers league”.
