Report: Former Chelsea manager pleaded for ‘more time’

About Football Express UK

It has been only a few days since the sacking of former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel as reports suggest he pleaded for “more time“.

The Blues have taken a very strict decision under the ownership of Todd Boehly who administered the removal of Tuchel. Surprised by the events that followed after the loss to Dinamo Zagreb, it is understood that Tuchel wanted more time.

Chelsea have had a very slow start to the season after dismal performances against Southampton, Leeds United, and Dinamo Zagreb. Boehly wants to quickly move on from the sacking and has appointed Graham Potter as the new head coach.

Tuchel demanded more time at Chelsea

It was 18 months ago that Tuchel joined following the sacking of former Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard. The 49-year-old made his 100th appearance as the manager for the West side of London which proved to be his last.

However, during his stint with the club, Tuchel engineered wins in the UCL, Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup. Despite the honors achieved, the German international failed to get a side to compete for titles this season.

The management decided it is in the best interest of the club that a transition should be followed. Hence, the immediate sacking of Tuchel and appointing Graham Potter as the new gaffer at the Bridge for the season.

Moreover, it is also understood that Tuchel is left shocked as have many others within the squad. Now, Potter is set to leave Brighton and join the “Pride of London” and takeover the new project this season.

The new gaffer will certainly require his time to understand the dynamics within the club to find his stable squad. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea will be able to make it to the top four this season.
