Loftus-Cheek has admitted he has not developed to his expectations

About Football Express UK

Ruben Loftus-Cheek believes that he has not reached the level he was expecting as injuries surely played a crucial part.

Loftus-Cheek played regularly for Chelsea as he was featured in 19 games, only missing one. N’golo Kante and Kovacic being injured have surely helped Ruben but it took him longer than expected to be a key player for the team.

He entered the first team in 14/15 under Jose Mourinho and was permanently promoted in 15/16.

After seven years with two loan spells, the midfielder is finally happy to play for the blues. Although, he is surely not happy with his progress.

Loftus Cheek’s statement

On Chelsea’s official website, the midfielder said :

“I’m in a phase now where I feel really good, I’m fit, I’m healthy, and I’m playing,”

“I have had a lot of challenges physically and mentally that have halted my development and made things difficult.

“The injuries I’ve had have been very difficult to deal with. I have had so much time off the pitch. I haven’t developed as much as I would have liked, but that’s how it goes.

“The first thing I wanted after so many setbacks and injuries was to feel happy and healthy, and now I do.

“It makes you appreciate the career you’ve had and how I’m feeling now.”

The injury he had in 2019 has already affected his international career for England. Having been out of the field for so long, he has lost his explosiveness and attributes like before.

Even after all this, he still helped the team with his creativity, and the fans still yet to see the true potential of the midfielder.
