Liverpool have been warned against signing an injury-prone midfielder

Liverpool have been warned not to sign midfielder N’Golo Kante from Chelsea. Paul Robinson has warned Liverpool not to sign the injury-prone midfielder.

N’Golo Kante was deemed as one of the best midfielders in the world a few years ago. However, constant injuries and inconsistency meant he gradually became out of favor at Chelsea. Kante was linked with several clubs over the last couple of years. He was linked to Manchester United, and Barcelona and now has been linked with a move to Liverpool.

Buying Kante would add to Liverpool’s injury crisis

Liverpool are already facing depth issues. Injuries to key players are forcing manager Jurgen Klopp to chop and change every week. This season Liverpool have been lacking a top midfielder to propel their team. However, Kante might not be the right man for the Reds. Despite his accolades, he has a very poor injury record. Liverpool would not want to overburden themselves with another injury-prone midfielder.

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider,

“They already have one injury-prone midfielder in Naby Keita. You cannot take on a player like Kante given his injury record. Yes, he is a free agent but he will demand a lot in wages,”

“I suspect there is a lot of agent talk in this one. The player is coming to the end of his contract and is not playing week in, week out so his agent will be putting the feelers out.

“There is a whole lot of change going on at Chelsea. A lot of players have come in. Kante probably is going to leave at the end of the season but I question as to whether Liverpool should go for him.

“He is coming towards the end of his career and has injury problems. Liverpool do not need to be signing that kind of player. It would be no more than a stop-gap.”
