Liverpool eyeing Joao Felix in the final week of a ‘dramatic’ transfer window

About Football Express UK

According to rumours in Portugal, Liverpool is eyeing former Chelsea forward Joao Felix as a potential Mohamed Salah replacement if the Egyptian move to Al-Ittihad. The Atletico Madrid player scored four goals in 20 games while on loan at Stamford Bridge for six months last year. However they declined to sign him on for the next season.

Liverpool to face competition from 3 clubs to sign Joao Felix

The 23-year-old ended up having to sit out the opening day of the 2023–24 La Liga season after not getting a single minute of action for Diego Simeone’s team in preseason. Madrid triumphed in that Granada encounter 3-1, but six days later he was completely dropped from the squad against Real Betis. On Monday night’s game against Rayo Vallecano, the attacker didn’t start as well. Many were thrilled by his second-half loan to Chelsea last year, but others remained unsatisfied, expecting more from a player who cost Atletico £111 million in 2019. In the four years following that, he has only managed to score 38 goals for clubs in 151 outings. Thus, Chelsea did not use the buy clause of the loan agreement worth £11 million because of his subpar performance.

When the transfer window closing in four days time, Felix’s future is in doubt. However recently, Barcelona, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa are willing to sign him. But the player himself wants a move to Barca.

Joao Felix intends to join Barcelona

“I’d love to play for Barça,” he told Fabrizio Romano earlier in the summer.

“Barcelona has always been my first choice and I’d love to join Barça. It was always my dream since I was a kid. If it happens, it will be a dream come true for me.”

Before making any signings, Barcelona will need to offload players, therefore it is uncertain if players like Fati or Abde would leave the team in order to make room for Felix to join. Thus, Barcelona has a bleak chance to sign him this summer.

Mohamed Salah has drawn a lot of attention from the Saudi Pro League as Al Ittihad prepares a transfer late in this summer. It has been reported that the player agreed to an offer offer worth over £190million per season. However he is awaiting approval from Liverpool. Thus, Liverpool is keen to sign Felix as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah.

The transfer window for Premier League clubs is closing in just four days. Thus coaches are still eager to improve their squads before Friday’s deadline. Thus, Felix’s next club will be soon confirmed within 2-3 days.
