Chelsea Player Mateo Kovacic takes on Manchester City and Josep Guardiola

Thanks to a tap-in by Riyad Mahrez just after the hour mark, Guardiola City managed to squeak out three points. Most of the time, Graham Potter’s men held their own and occasionally scared their guests throughout the evening. Despite suffering greatly during the match and even before a ball was kicked, they did not submit to the reigning league champions.

Mason Mount was the most recent absence from Potter’s lengthy injury list going into the game. The Chelsea boss then saw ex Man City player and Josep Guardiola player Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic leave the field as a result of personal medical issues.

Kovacic is a powerful midfielder. The 28-year-old was making his first start since Croatia finished third at the World Cup. Kovacic is one of Chelsea’s best player. He troubled Josep Guardiola and City a lot.

Also, it’s hardly surprising that Guardiola to talk to him after the game; presumably, he wasn’t looking to move players.
